Peugeot 3008 Key Fob: The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly

What You Should Know About Your Peugeot Key Fob

Peugeot Key Fob lets drivers start the car from a distance. This is useful in cold or hot weather and allows drivers to warm up the engine and the interior before getting inside the vehicle.

Dealerships can program and design new Peugeot keys but only if they have the time. At KeyNOW,  peugeot 206 key G28  can cut the keys, program them and then deliver new Peugeot keys to you much faster.

Keyless Entry

Key fobs can start your car's engine. This is useful in the event that you need to leave the vehicle during hot weather, or if you're carrying heavy objects in the boot which make it difficult to open the door manually. To start the car using your key fob, simply press the unlock button on it several times in rapid succession. The door locks will unlock and the red light will begin to flash. If this does not occur the battery in your key fob could be dead and requires to be replaced. Alternately, RF interference from nearby buildings may disrupt your system.

Another nifty feature is that certain key fobs come with a physical key to unlock the car (often only for the door of the driver, but occasionally for the boot too). They can be opened by flipping up the flap on the fob, or by pressing a button on the case. The physical key may then slide out of the slot of the case to open the lock.

Key fobs can get damaged by water - particularly when the chips within them are exposed to salty or soapy water. In some instances chips that are damaged could cause key fobs to stop functioning. In this instance, the key fob must be replaced by the dealer. Locksmiths are able to replace keys much quicker and at a lower price than dealerships.

Remote Start

If your key fob is equipped with the remote start feature it can start the engine without having to have your car keys on the palm of your hand. This is particularly useful when it's hot and you want to cool your car when you're running on errands. There are some things you must know before using this feature.

Certain key fobs have an engine start button that you can press to start your vehicle remotely (for instance, Ford has a circular arrow that is moving clockwise on its key fob). Mazdas, for example, require you to lock the key first and then press the Start button.

There may be a weak or dead battery in your key fob, if you are unable to start the car. The key fob's battery isn't strong enough to send a signal to your car system.

If this is the scenario, you'll have to replace the batteries on the key fob or attempt to re-programme it. The procedure is different for each vehicle, but the instructions are usually in the owner's manual. Our mobile technicians are able to help you with this process. We have the specialist tools needed to cut and program the replacement Peugeot key at your workplace, at home, or in case you're stuck at the roadside.

Door Locks

The Peugeot 3008 remote key system enables the owner to lock and unlock their vehicle by pressing of a button on the key fob. The key fob, which is different from the traditional key with a physical hole, holds an unnoticed copy of the car keys inside.

To accomplish this, it relies on a unique radio signal which can only be transmitted when the key is within a specified range of the car. Once the signal is spotted and a solenoid in the door lock translates the electronic signal into the mechanical action. This is accomplished by moving a rod which operates the car door locks just like the turning of a physical key used to do.

If a Peugeot key fob isn't locking or unlocking the vehicle, there are many possibilities of the cause. Most likely is a dead coin battery, which can be replaced in a matter of minutes. Other causes are worn buttons, water damage signal interference or a faulty electronic chip.

The key fob on modern automobiles is not an exception. Modern cars require extremely high level precision in order to operate. The key fob might be programmed incorrectly, or have an issue with the hardware that prevents it from responding to signals from the vehicle. A locksmith certified by the ICRC can reprogram your key fob to ensure that it is compatible with your vehicle.

Immobiliser

Peugeot were among the first car manufacturers to use an immobiliser chip in the key. This stops the car from starting in the event that the key sends the incorrect signal to the car. When new this is great but as they age the chips may wear out and begin to cause problems. This typically starts with an alert stating 'anti theft system active' on the dashboard, or a warning light is flashing with the message 'immobiliser fault'.

Peugeot dealerships are typically called to create and program replacement keys. Mobile locksmiths use dealer-standard equipment in their van. This means they can make new Peugeot keys at your home or by the roadside quicker than a dealership.

Peugeot keys usually start to malfunction when the blade wears out. This wear could cause the mouth of the key to get into the lock in a proper manner, causing further wear on the locks. Sometimes, simply changing a new blade can help solve the issue. It can also be beneficial to have the teeth on the key refurbished to allow them to work more smoothly. Only a licensed auto locksmith can do this, but it can save you a lot of time and money in the future.
